Citrus in season…

Blood oranges have just come into season.  These beauties have their own unique flavor,  more sweet than regular orange juice, and a brilliant red pulp that is the result of anthocyanin, an antioxidant that starts at the peel and then streaks color into the flesh of the orange segments.  This process deepens as the fruit ripens with warmer days followed by cooler nights.  Blood oranges have always been a favorite.

We will have these beautiful organic blood oranges tomorrow at the Old Town Scottsdale market, along with Honeybell Tangelos, Navel Oranges, Tangerines, Lisbon Lemons and my favorites, Meyer Lemons.
